Garage Moving Tips
Packing in preparation for a move can seem like a daunting job! We aim to help alleviate the “daunt” by helping you get ready with some sage moving advice.
The trickiest rooms to prepare for your move are garages and storage sheds. Another “room” to think about is your patio/deck, which I’ll write more about in another blog post. Before sharing tips on packing your garage to move, I feel it’s important to give some advice about getting an accurate moving price quote.
Over the phone moving quotes or online moving quotes are very useful as long as you remember to completely detail everything you need to have moved. The garage and storage sheds are often overlooked when itemizing your home for a moving quote.
Packing and loading a garage or storage shed takes much longer than other areas of the home. In addition to tools and garden equipment, over time, garages become a catch-all for any number of household items. Exercise equipment, car parts, lumber and camping equipment all equate to random items that require thoughtful preparation and packing to move.
Group Like Items
Group similarly shaped and sized items together. Long handles -rakes, brooms, shovels, etc. can be wrapped with a pad or tape to hold in place.
Use packing paper or other filler inside tool boxes to hold in place. I definitely recommend having tool chests wrapped with moving pads. No one likes their standing tool chest scratched!
Repack any boxes that have been stored for very long. Cardboard weakens over time and tape loses adhesion, especially when stored in outdoor sheds and garages where temperatures are not controlled.
Exercise equipment larger than a stationary bike may require disassembly or may incur bulky item charges. Be sure to discuss this with your mover. Certain fitness equipment requires the manufacturer or seller to disassemble and move in order to maintain your warranty.
As always, the least stressful way to pack and move is to hire a reputable, reliable, experienced mover. Should this be the route you choose (see what I did there?), give us a call or visit our website for your free moving quote.
